Season 2 :: Episode 4 :: Smoke 'em if ya got 'em
We're back from a long break, and glad to be drinking and talking about beer again. This time around, Hog Dawg treats us to 2 smoked beers - an authentic Bavarian Rauch Beir, and Alaskan Brewing's Smoked Porter.
To pick up where we left off, we read the results of our Hoserama 2.0 brackets, and give out the results that others posted on our web site. We discuss the Imus fracas, and how this affects freedom of speech on the internet. It's rare when we have serious discussions, so bear with us. What Imus did was too much.

It was great to hear you guys again. I wondered what the hell was going on. I cannot say I am sure about smoked beers though. When did clark get the sex change operation? :)
Loved the show guys. Thanks for promoting the Blues Foundation, it really is a cause we care about. We weren't just trying to get free tickets to the $100.00 a head soiree at Bosco's! Okay, that would've been nice, but we do support the blues. And beer. And BBQ!
Okay, slight bone to pick with you guys. How in the hell can you take Naomi Watts out in the first round? You obviously missed the Jay Leno interview where she was wearing a white piece of silk cloth - and not much else. I watched that interview on DVR about 20 times. Luscious! If you missed it, you have a chance to watch it here... Big download, BUT WORTH IT!! Wow.

Which Schlenkerla did you have? They have a smoked Marzen, Urbock, Lager, Lentbeer etc? The pic on your blog is for a Marzen. I really dig this beer. It's in my top 5 if stuck on a dessert island!
We do a bit on Imus too in an upcoming show. What a dufus. Glad he's off air - but I hate to think freedom of speech will take a hack. Fantastic that you are all back. I was thinking that I might have to delete my iTunes subscription because you guys had not done anything new in 2 months.
I agree that I too am not into smoked beers. When I saw the title, I figured maybe you guys were going to roll joints or something. Next time do that. I would love to hear you guys high.
Agreed with Naomi Watts too, but Brooke Burke was in my final. She is just way too hot not to go all the way. Do you guys watch Rock Star Supernova? She lights up the screen every time.
Don't make us wait another 2 months for a new dude night or I'll delete you from my podcast subscriptions for sure.

We had the Marzen, just as the label on the site indicates. It was really good, but again I don't think it was as good as the Rauchbeir you made last year. This one was thin on body, but had great character. I loved the malt richness on yours much more.
Thanks for putting up with our lame Hoserama picks. Naomi was on my Top 5 list for a long long time, but there's just no denying Jessica Beil's hotness. Sorry we let you down. At least I didn't pick Moynahan!
Thanks for the link to that video too. Wow, that was a site to behold. Mulholland Drive was brilliant. She's a great actress and will win an Oscar some day, if she continues to take good parts. I'm sure of that.
I agree with you on Imus. I'm just sorry it took them so long to finally nail that dude. He's been a pompous, irritable prick for way too long. I'd have liked to seen him get fired back when it mattered. He's got all the money he needs now. The sun was already setting on his career.

Thanks for hanging in there with us. Sorry for the break. Trust me, it won't happen again, even if we have to put out mini-shows to pass the time. Things just got crazy with our jobs, etc. You heard the story about the tree, right? That was a week-long drama in and of itself.
I too am not a huge fan of smoked beers, but the beers Dawg brought to the table were really good. Alaskan's Smoked Porter was fantastic, and not nearly as smoky as you might think. If you get a chance to see The Thirsty Traveler's show on Alaskan beer, you'll see where he head brewer goes to actually smoke that grain. It's at a Salmon smoke house. They let him use their gear to smoke his grain, and it's really cool and authentic.
That whole Imus situation was frigged up. Thanks for playing the whole thing. I don't listen to his show, so I only got to hear the clip everyone was playing on the news. Wat an a-HOLE!!!!

I live in Ontario (canada) and we get the Smoked Porter in the Winter. Its great. If you don't like smoked beer don't worry its not that smokey.

Gents - you simply must get together more often. Damn fine show. My first experience with a smoked beer changed the way I looked at beer forever - it is simply a godsend. Thanks for making me thirsty for some good 'ol fashioned smoky goodness.
